Workhorse Watch Round 11
Workhorse Watch 2023!
CEO’s don’t win premierships without a hard working forward pack. Each week we will highlight the players that are must have’s in your pack, whilst also help identify the players to be on the lookout for. There were 68 players who scored a WH in Round 11, with 1 DWH this week.
WORKING HARD
Harry Grant (Storm)
47 tackles, 13 runs for 114m in 80 minutes – DWH (0.75 spm)
Harry notched his 3rd DWH last week to solidify his claim as the NRLCEO MVP. His attacking stats have been down on previous years but his work rate remains as high, which is pretty scary for non Grant owners knowing that he can still go up a few gears in attack.
Nat Butcher (Roosters)
63 tackles, 6 runs for 51m in 80 minutes – WH (0.86 stats per minute)
Nat is a tackling machine. we know this, but he isn’t really a threat when he runs the ball. At the back end of 2022 he went on a try scoring spree, scoring 7 tries in his last 6 games. Perhaps that reflects his selection on the bench this week, although he will probably still score a WH from the bench.
Tohu Harris (Warriors)
50 tackles, 15 runs for 122m in 80 minutes – WH (0.81 spm)
A great sign for Tohu las week playing the full 80 minutes. In his last 2 matches he run for 122m which is 30 above his average for the season, hopefully he can push it up to the 150m needed for a DWH.
Moeaki Fotuaika (Titans)
44 tackles, 16 runs for 133m in 69 minutes – WH (0.87 spm)
Big Moe has returned to his form of 2020. With a few player departures, Fotuaika has been able to play more minutes and his CEO form has been fantastic with 7 consecutive WH’s and an average of 140+ metres run.
HARDLY WORKING
Tevita Pangai Junior (Bulldogs)
26 tackles, 10 runs for 84m in 40 minutes (0.90 spm)
To be fair, his stats per minute of 0.90 is actually very good, its his lack of minutes which is affecting his CEO output. Even so, he does not look to be playing at full throttle like he has in the past. Perhaps this will help keep him out of trouble on the field. Over rated player in my opinion.
Joe Stimson (Titans)
26 tackles, 3 runs for 16m in 54 minutes (0.54 spm)
A player who showed so much promise whilst he was in the Storm system, Stimson has failed to elevate his game since. After a mixed stint at the Bulldogs, he was picked up by the Titans and hasn’t really shown much despite becoming a regular starter. He hardly ever runs the ball and is basically just a defender and his work rate is well short of CEO standard.
Leo Thompson (Knights)
21 tackles, 8 runs for 59m in 38 minutes (0.76 spm)
With a few players returning from injury, Thompson’s minutes have shrunk over the past few weeks as has his CEO scores. He has been named at lock this week which could mean extra minutes and hopefully being back to a regular WH. He is a hold for the moment but not far from being cut.
SPUD POOL LOOKOUT
Stefano Utoikamanu (Tigers)
32 tackles, 10 runs for 92m in 46 minutes – WH (0.91 spm)
In a bludger of a game last week against Souths, Stefano scored his first WH since Round 4. I don’t think this is some sort of revival as the issue of too many high work rates in the Tigers pack remains. That being said, if he is in your spud pool, there would not be many better options out there.
Jack Williams (Sharks)
31 tackles, 11 runs for 103m in 42 minutes – WH (1.00 spm)
Jack could be a handy pick up for the next few weeks. Sharks have the bye in Round 13 but with McInnes out injured for about 4 weeks, Williams could see some increased minutes.
Sitili Tupouniua (Roosters)
32 tackles, 8 runs for 68m in 52 minutes – WH (0.77 spm)
By now Sitili has been picked up in most comps but if he is available he is worth taking a punt on. He has the start this week over Crichton so should be a regular WH if he can maintain that position.
Matthew Lodge (Roosters)
27 tackles, 14 runs for 101m in 50 minutes – WH (0.82 spm)
JWH looks set to be sideline for a while with a pec injury which means a likely increase in minutes for Lodge. He has shown in the past he can WH on a regular basis if he plays enough minutes. Always a risk that he will do something stupid and get sin binned of course.
Harrison Edwards (Bulldogs)
48 tackles, 8 runs for 66m in 68 minutes – WH (0.82 spm)
A new pup has emerged from the Kennel in the shape of Harrison Edwards. He has a huge work rate, particularly in defence, but he showed last week he has some footwork at the line which got him a try. He starts at lock this week so he will be a strong WH chance.
WORTH MENTIONING….
Max King (Bulldogs)
33 tackles, 6 runs for 55m in 39 minutes – (1.00 spm)
King has clearly been hampered by injury recently so hopefully this isn’t a sign of how Ciraldo will play him moving forward. King only played 39 minutes last week even though he only missed a WH by 1 involvement. This is a cause for concern for King owners.
Ben Trbojevic (Sea Eagles)
8 tackles, 7 runs for 46m in 30 minutes – (0.56 spm)
Let’s ignore his output form last week and focus on the fact that he has earned a starting back row spot this week. He clearly has good pedigree and if he can put in a few good performances, he might just be the long term option at back Row for Manly. I can see him becoming a damaging ball runner on an edge and he can hold his own in defence.
Daniel Saifiti (Knights)
13 tackles, 16 runs for 121m in 47 minutes – (0.62 spm)
Saifiti has had an inconsistent season so far. He has 6 WH’s in his 10 matches this season, but most of those he barely passed the 40 involvements. He is the Knights premium front rower and should be providing more than he is in terms of CEO points. If he is the top front rower in your squad I would be nervous.
WORKHORSE PACK OF THE WEEK (most involvements by eligible position)
8. Tohu Harris (Warriors) – 65
9. Harry Grant (Storm) – 60
10. Moeaki Fotuaika (Titans) – 60
11. Nat Butcher (Roosters) – 69
12. Isaiah Papali’i (Tigers) – 58
13. Cameron Murray (Rabbitohs) – 62
