Workhorse Watch 2023!
CEO’s don’t win premierships without a hard working forward pack. Each week we will highlight the players that are must have’s in your pack, whilst also help identify the players to be on the lookout for. There were 62 players who scored a WH in Round 10, with 1 DWH this week.
WORKING HARD
Tino Fa’asuamaleaui (Titans)
46 tackles, 19 runs for 164m in 73 minutes – DWH (0.89 spm)
Tino is surely only just behind Payne Haas in being regarded as the premium front rower in NRLCEO. Sometimes being made captain can harm a players output in games but big Tino has taken his game to another level.
Tohu Harris (Warriors)
50 tackles, 15 runs for 122m in 80 minutes – WH (0.81 stats per minute)
Tohu has had his concerns with injury this year but he bounced back with a massive effort last week. He has developed into a ball playing lock, similar to the role that Isaah Yeo plays at the Panthers. Unfortunately this means he is unlikely to break 150m each week to get the DWH.
Victor Radley (Roosters)
47 tackles, 14 runs for 102m in 78 minutes – WH (0.78 spm)
Hopefully he can settle into some WH form and forget about the low percentage plays the see him off to the sin bins most weeks. This is the sort of performance that Radley is capable of each week.
Alex Twal (Tigers)
45 tackles, 14 runs for 126m in 56 minutes – WH (1.05 spm)
Poor old Twal still searching for his first NRL try. His work rate is still amazing when he gets the minutes with 59 involvements in 56 minutes. The secret to Twal getting the minutes and consequently a WH each week is the Tigers bench. If Sheens names an outside back and Simpkins with 2 other forwards (1 being Twal), then he is more likely to get the WH. If there are 3 forwards on the bench his minutes seem to drop.
HARDLY WORKING
Jacob Host (Rabbitohs)
20 tackles, 11 runs for 98m in 69 minutes (0.45 spm)
After being given a starting spot to cover for injuries in their forward pack, Host has struggled to make an impression. He has never been known has a player with a high work rate so likely he is sitting in your spud pool.
Lachlan Croker (Sea Eagles)
28 tackles, 1 runs for 7m in 50 minutes (0.58 spm)
Manly need to make a change here as Croker has just become ineffective in attack. He has scored 2 WH’s this year from 9 games and averages only 24 run metres a game. If you have Croker in your squad it is time to cut him loose or find a sucker to trade him to. Time for Seibold to bring in Gordon Tong!
Kenny Bromwich (Dolphins)
17 tackles, 10 runs for 66m in 45 minutes (0.60 spm)
I wonder if the move into the middle will have a negative affect in Kenny Brom’s output. He managed a WH in Round 9 playing in up front but he struggled last week, although the Dolphins had a lot of possession against the Sharks which may have contributed to that.
SPUD POOL LOOKOUT
Thomas Eisenhuth (Storm)
33 tackles, 8 runs for 78m in 42 minutes – WH (0.98 spm)
Injury at the start of the year robbed Eisenhuth a chance at a starting back row spot at the Storm. He has 2 WH’s for the year playing off the bench and as you can see he does not need a huge amount of minutes to get a WH. Worth a look during byes and origin.
Josh Kerr (Dragons)
33 tackles, 12 runs for 97m in 35 minutes – WH (1.29 spm)
What an outstanding stats per minute result for Kerr. Another player who has showed a lot of promise over the last few years but has never been able to perform consistently. He is off to the Dolphins next season to add depth to their forward pack, I don’t think it will make a difference to his NRLCEO relevance.
Thomas Flegler (Broncos)
23 tackles, 15 runs for 139m in 50 minutes – (0.76 spm)
I think Flegler has some tremendous upside for the rest of this season and into the next few years at the Dolphins. He is not far off becoming a regular WH and he could become a forward leader at the Dolphins for years to come. Keeper league alert!!
Lindsay Smith (Panthers)
27 tackles, 12 runs for 109m in 40 minutes – WH (0.98 spm)
This guy is a future CEO gun. If you are in a keeper or contract league then sign him up and stash him away for the future.
WORTH MENTIONING….
Corey Waddell (Bulldogs)
36 tackles, 10 runs for 86m in 80 minutes – WH (0.58 spm)
Waddell has taken advantage of the giant hole left by Viliame Kikau. He has become a reliable WH, scoring 7 WH’s in a row since getting a starting spot.
Angus Crichton (Roosters)
24 tackles, 14 runs for 113m in 67 minutes – (0.57 spm)
Angus is slowly getting match fit and he is not far off being back to his usual WH each week with the odd try here and there. Despite the Roosters struggles they are blessed to be able to bring Crichton back in and those CEOs who held firm will get their rewards in the second half of the season.
Kurt Capewell (Broncos)
32 tackles, 11 runs for 91m in 77 minutes – WH (0.56 spm)
Lookout, Capewell has a WH in back to back games. Lets see how long he can keep this streak going.
Felise Kaufusi (Dolphins)
28 tackles, 14 runs for 118m in 80 minutes – WH (0.53 spm)
Kaufusi has lifted his work rate since returning from suspension, scoring a WH in his last 3 matches. He could be sitting in some spud pools and is worth adding to your squad, even with the Dolphins on the bye this week.
