Round 5 Dream Team

Rd5 DT

Plenty of usual suspects strutted out their usual form this week with the pack being full of players touted pre-season as the one’s to watch.  Sammy Burgess, Robbie Farah, Aaron Woods, Trent Merrin, Shaun Fensom and Nathan Peats were all expected to fire and so far, they all have.

Chrissy Sandow makes a welcome return to form.  After all the talk of him being unfit and unwanted by the Eels, he stepped up from Reserve Grade and delivered a master class to put a knife into the Broncos hearts.  The rest of the top performers are outlined below.

Nathan Stapleton (18 points)

We’ve always known that Stapleton had potential try scoring power, but a modest try scoring return in his five years in First Grade to date is all we have to go off.  But over the weekend everything went right for the Sharks and Stapleton and his return of four tries was the first of his career (I know, shock me…).

Robbie Farah (15 points)

Farah is getting double workhorses for fun in 2014.  This week he notched up his fourth in a row leading the ANZACast Podcast team to question whether the metres goal need to rise for hookers.  Defeating Manly takes a mighty effort and Farah was immense in the battle.  You could tell he enjoyed it.  For this year at least, Farah is just as valuable, if not more valuable, than years gone past.

Sam Burgess (13 points)

The big Pom has become such a divisive figure in the NRL, but all you need to know is that if you have him in your NRLCEO side you love him because of his hard work and ability to sniff out a try.  A try and a double workhorse (as well as 200m) was a great return for a pack leader under scrutiny.

Todd Carney (11 points)

When Carney runs hot it takes a good side to hold him back.  Unlucky for the Warriors they felt the brunt of his work.  Playing at the Tip, the Warriors looked garbage and deserved the hiding they received.  Carney laying on 3 try assists, a line break, 3 line break assists and a field goal just to rub it it.

Steve Matai, Michael Morgan and David Nofoaluma (11 points)

It was a big week for backs scoring double with each of these crossing the stripe twice in Round 5.  Steve Matai continues to prove his critics wrong, Michael Morgan was actually quite superb (although his volley is questionable at best) and David Nofoaluma continued to shine in a Tigers side that is proving everyone wrong.

Any chance of getting a post that shows who has the most overall points and DT appearances? Knowing points to date for players would be handy in evaluating trades. Cheers.

Hi Gerrardo. That’s a good idea too. Points to date can obviously be seen by clicking each players profile page, but I understand your point that having them all in one spot would be good too!
