Round 18 Dream Teams
Looking at the best performances each week to determine the Team of the Week and using the player’s season totals to determine the overall Dream Team for 2016 on a week by week basis.
Round 18 Team of the Week:
In a short bye week there were still some fantastic results from and NRLCEO perspective.
The star was by far and above Ben Barba (16). I don’t want to talk about how he might be getting back to his 2012 Dally M winning form, but it was his best NRLCEO performance since Round 24, 2014. He was everywhere against the Panthers and was probably unlucky not to score a hat trick. His 16 point return consisted of two tries, a try assist, three link breaks, one line break assist and one metre eater.
Brett Morris (13) now has 38 points in his three games back from injury including seven tries! That’s a purple patch even for B-Moz. He now needs just one more try to beat his tally from the whole of last year. It is his highest NRLCEO score since… well… last week!
I couldn’t leave my man Jack Wighton (12) out of the team after his performance last night so I switched the versatile Barba to #6 in order to fit him in. Wighton’s two tries were perfectly timed to put a stamp on the game and he also chalked up two line breaks and a metre eater. His defence was even more impressive though with two bone rattling last line of defence hits!
Roosters youngster Latrell Mitchell (12) quietly chalked up his highest ever NRLCEO score with 191 running metres equating to two tries, two line breaks and a metre eater. His debut season tally is now 11 tries and a total of 65 NRLCEO points.
Last, but certainly not least, Aiden Tolman (12) completed a perfect NRLCEO round for a forward not scoring a try. His 65 involvements and 206 metres gave him a double workhorse and double metre eater for the second time in his NRLCEO career.
Note: points are based on tries (4), workhorses (4), double workhorses (8), try assists (2), line breaks (1), line break assists (1), metre eaters (2), double metre eaters (4), field goals (1), 40/20’s (1), sin bins (-2) and send offs (-4)
Overall Dream Team:
Each week we will accumulate the points for each player to come up with the Overall Dream Team for 2016.
Two new entries this week due to majority of the big teams having the bye and the Origin players having a rest.
The first new entrant is Raiders captain Jarrod Croker (82). For years now he has been an underrated NRLCEO pick and for years he has been amongst the top scorers. He now has 11 tries for the season which is the fifth time he has ten tries or more in a season from his eight seasons in first grade. The most he has scored was 18 tries in 2014. He also has 68 goals this season and would need another 26 more from his remaining seven games to be his best ever season with the boot. Hard to believe he’s still just 25 years old.
As the Moneyball Podcast boys spoke about on their most recent podcast, Trent Merrin (87) is having his best season yet in terms of NRLCEO statistics but that obviously doesn’t reflect in the eyes of the Origin selectors. As you can see from his graph below, he hasn’t dipped below four NRLCEO points since Round 5 this year! He has also run for 100 metres or more in every game this year including seven games where he has run for 150 metres or more. If you have him in your NRLCEO team you probably don’t mind him missing Origin as he has been invaluable.
No more entries into the century club this week with Cam Smith and Jordan Rapana remaining in the 90’s but from out of nowhere Josh Hodgson (94) has joined Cam Smith at the top of the hooker rankings too. His ten point return was his third double digits score this season and he’s now a legitimate chance at ousting Cam Smith for the Dream Team spot by the end of the season.
Here is the full Dream Team after eighteen rounds:

2. Jordan Rapana (91)
