Round 10 Injury Report

Andrew Fifita Injury

Big news on the injury front this week with some mixed emotions for NSW fans, and could a mid-week Dragons open up the way for a Benji Marshall return? Let’s take a look at the injury list for the Round 10 match ups:

Souths v Storm

No changes to the Souths’ line up for this weekend as Apisai Koroisau managed to downgrade his Grade 2 dangerous throw charge, making him free to line up against the Storm. Adam Reynolds is expected to be fit for this weekend after suffering a minor back issue in last week’s win over the Titans. Only the one change this week for the Storm with Joel Romelo starting at five-eighth for the suspended Ben Hampton.

Broncos v Titans

Martin Kennedy will spend a week in the Queensland Cup after his lacklustre performance against the Cowboys. Meanwhile Sam Thaiday has again been ruled out with a calf injury which is set to be a massive blow for the Maroon’s before Origin selection, look for Thaiday to be racing the clock to be ready for this Friday night blockbuster and stake his claim for an Origin jersey. The Titans’ have been dealt a big blow with Ashley Harrison ruled out due to concussion and Greg Bird suspended for two weeks. Backline duo Kevin Gordon and Albert Kelly have also been ruled after missing the Titans’ final training run, Kalifa Faifai Loa and Beau Henry are the likely replacements. Faifai Loa has been in red hot form in the Queensland Cup and could provide the spark needed to lift a struggling Gold Coast backline. There is some good news however with Luke Bailey is set to make his return from injury this week as well as Brad Tighe and Maurice Blair who are making their comebacks in the Queensland Cup.

Eels v Dragons

Parramatta will line up with the same 17 that demolished the Sharks last Monday night however it has been confirmed that star fullback Jarryd Hayne will play through the Origin period with a AC injury to his left shoulder. Jason Nightingale will start on the wing this weekend after recovering from the ankle injury he suffered during the ANZAC Test pushing Nathan Green back to his rightful place in reserve grade. Mike Cooper is under observation this week after suffering an arm injury and is not expected to play and Jack Stockwell has been ruled out mid-week after suffering a foot injury, this could path the way for a Benji Marshall swansong. St George officials have been very tight lipped over Marshall’s return however I wouldn’t be surprised to see the former Tiger pull on the famous Red V for the first time this weekend.

King Robbie

Sharks v Tigers

Andrew Fifita has been ruled out for up to six weeks with an ankle syndesmosis injury which will surely throw selections for the NSW front row position into disarray. However in some good news Bryce Gibbs has overcome the hand injury that ruled him out of last week’s match and will take Fifita’s place in the front row. Some massive news this week for the West Tigers, NSW and CEO Coaches alike with Robbie Farah being named to return early from his dislocated elbow. Farah was on fire during the start of the season and I see no reason why he shouldn’t be able to recapture that form and guide the Tigers, NSW and my CEO team to some massive wins. Braith Anasta is also set to make his return at five-eighth for the Tigers, pushing Blake Austin back to the bench. Workhorse back rower Liam Fulton is still struggling from the back injury that ruled him out of last week’s match and will not be named to play this week.

Cowboys v Roosters

Young gun Curtis Rona will miss a week with an ankle injury however gun winger Antonio Winterstein will take his place after being cleared to return from a hamstring injury, Jason Taumalolo is also in some doubt with an ankle injury and is probably has a 50-50 chance of playing. Mitch Pearce is the only casualty for the Roosters this week after serving a one-match club suspension for a big night out on the piss, Sonny Bill Williams will line-up at five-eighth with James Maloney switching to halfback.

Raiders v Panthers

No injury concerns for the Raiders this week however coach Ricky Stuart has made some big changes to his squad after conceding 50 plus points in their past two matches. Matt Allwood and Bill Tupou have been punted with Mosese Pangai set to make his Raiders debut on the wing. Jack Wighton will shift to the centres to make way for Josh McCrone to return into the halves. Jarrad Kennedy will make his return to first grade starting line-up after a few weeks in the Mounties side, look for a big game from the tireless back rower as he looks to cement himself a permanent starting spot. Kevin Kingston is sidelined indefinitely with a foot injury for the Panthers and Nigel Plum will also miss this week after failing to recover from a head knock, Tim Grant will take his place in the squad.

Bulldogs v Warriors

The Bulldogs are unchanged from last week’s side with no injury concerns other than Frank Pritchard. Chase Stanley made a successful comeback from injury last week and I am tipping a big game from the former Dragons and Melbourne reject. Sam Rapira and Thomas Leuluai will again be sidelined this week with back and groin injuries respectively.

Sea Eagles v Knights

Kieran Foran and Jamie Lyon will miss another week with knee injuries. However in some good news, Daly Cherry-Evans looks good-to-go after getting through last week’s game against the Storm. Willie Mason and Korbin Sims will both take their place in the Knights side this week with front rower Joey Tapine dropping back to 18th man.
