Captains Call: Round 9

Hello everyone, welcome again to another edition of Captains Call.

While I didn’t exceed expectations with any of my picks, at least four of them managed to get four points or more which is better than a zero.

Andrew McCullough had enough involvements for a double, just didn’t have the meters. Also had a try disallowed so he was very close to having a score better than four.

Gavin Cooper hit that dreaded 39 mark which would have annoyed many CEO coaches but was able to cross the line for his second try of the season, also picked up two line breaks on the way.

Andrew Fifita wasn’t able to cross the line but did pick up a workhorse with exactly 40 involvements. Not spectacular but did the job

Billy Slater did play a good game but we all know that doesn’t necessarily mean points for NRLCEO. Produced just one line break and a meter eater if you are using that stat.

Tom Trbojevic had a good game against the Raiders and was rewarded with a try. He is only getting better and better and could be a valuable option for captain against some on the weaker teams.

So I did, I put the kiss of death on Gareth Widdop. Sorry to all the coaches out there who have him, it was all my fault. Hopefully he isn’t out for too long as I don’t think the Dragons can win games without him.

Let’s review another five for this week.

Jake Friend (safe bet)

Friend makes tackles for fun, pity he doesn’t like to do much running. Has made 339 tackles in seven games but has only had 11 runs. He has only missed two workhorses this season which was due to him being crook. Expect him to make another workhorse this week.

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (safe bet)

Didn’t think at the start of the year that Hargreaves would be a safe bet but after his seventh workhorse in a row he’s definitely shaping as one. He hasn’t managed any other stats but if you want someone who will score a workhorse then he is one player that does it consistently.

Dylan Walker (risk and reward)

Starting to hit some form. Walker crossed for a try last week and up against a weaker defence this week he could be in the points again. Scored a try last year in the only game the Sea Eagles played the Rabbits, can see him scoring more points this week.

Josh Hodgson (risk and reward)

Last season Hodgson would’ve been a safe bet every week, this year he’s started the season a bit slow but is starting to regain last years form. Against the Dogs last year in their two games, Hodgson picked a workhorse in both and three try assists in total. Smarting from a disappointing loss last week don’t be surprised if the trend for Hodgson against the Dogs continues.

James Tedesco (risk and reward)

Close to the best and most dangerous fullback in the comp, Tedesco has been relatively quiet on the try scoring front this season. He’s coming up against a team he had a bit of success against last year in the Sharks where he crossed for two tries, two line breaks and a try assist. Titans managed to outplay the Sharks last week so don’t be surprised if Cleary can do the same thing for the Tigers this week with Tedesco being at the forefront of the point scoring.
