Captains Call: Round 5

Welcome to the fifth installment of Captains Call

Don’t crucify me just yet… I at least got Ryan James and Matt Gillett right, I mean who was to know the Bulldogs wouldn’t score a point and Cronk couldn’t even manage one try assist against a team that had over 40 points put on them the week before? Not to mention Moylan being one of only two backline players for Panthers not to score a point in the demolition of the Knights. In saying that, that is the reason they are a risk.

James and Gillett were obviously the pick of them this week. If you had Coen Hess and you captained him then very good call after he scored 14 points, his biggest haul so far. Will he start though now that Taumalolo is back? All those who have him will certainly hope so, including myself.

Let’s get onto reviewing five for this week and I promise I will try harder! Make sure you remember to vote in the poll. We have been getting good traction and it’s great to see what others are thinking.

Cameron McInnes (safe bet)

Moving to the Dragons from the Rabbitohs has done wonders for McInnes workhorse rate. Hasn’t missed one this season and on top of that has managed a try and three try assists. Playing the Tigers this weekend could boost that try or try assist column up a bit more too.

Paul Gallen (safe bet)

The old man at the Sharks is still kicking on. Hasn’t missed a workhorse yet this season and has actually made them quite easily. Not the double workhorse machine he once was he is still churning them out with no problems. A try and try assist so far this season is just an added bonus.

Valentine Holmes (risk and reward)

Holmes is yet to cross the line this season after two games back from injury, that should all change this week. Last year Holmes crossed the line six times in the two games the Sharks played the Knights. He scored 19 points first time around and followed it up with 10 the next time. Look for Holmes to get off the mark with a good score this week.

James Roberts (risk and reward)

Had a quite game last week but managed a try a game for the first three rounds. Playing against the toothless Bulldogs this week, if something doesn’t change I can see a big score by the Broncos and when Broncos score big points Roberts usually gets amongst it.

Shaun Johnson (risk and reward)

Even though the Warriors haven’t been very consistent so far this year, yes I know, shock me, the one thing that remains the same is Johnsons ability to score points. Two tries, three try assists and three line breaks isn’t horrible reading. Top that off with the two times the Warriors and Titans met last year Johnson walked away with a try, two try assists and two line breaks. Against a depleted side he should be in for some good points.
