Captains Call: Round 23
Welcome to Week 23 of Captains Call
I spoke last week about how close this finals series will be and that any of the teams in the eight could win it, I might need to rethink that.
For one, the Broncos could miss out all together as they face Souths and the Roosters over the next two weeks, with the Tigers having a slightly easier run playing the out of form Dragons and Manly. If I was a betting man, I’d have the Tigers in the eight by the end of next week.
Another team that currently looks like they will just make up the numbers is the Dragons. With the loss of Widdop things have been made harder to the point that even with their last round against the Knights, there is no guarantee of a win.
Congratulations to everyone that had a win in the first week of NRLCEO finals, I was lucky enough to pick up a win in my three comps where finals have started.
Let’s review last weeks five players and it was very consistent.
- Sam Burgess – 4 ✅
- Felise Kaufusi – 4 ✅
- Jake Friend – 4 ✅
- James Graham – 4 ✅
- Tyrone Peachey – 7 ✅
As you can see, all the forwards picked up an easy workhorse, while Peachey managed a try assist and line break assist, while he also managed a double meter eater if you have that in your comp.
Let’s preview five more and we’ll look at players from teams outside the eight.
Tigers – Matt Eisenhuth
One of the most consistent forwards in the comp. Eisenhuth has only missed one workhorse all year and while his attacking stats aren’t up there, he’s a guarantee for four points every week.
Raiders – Josh Papalii
Papalii has found his groove in the lock position and his ability to play big minutes is an added bonus. He managed to clock up 80 minutes on the weekend and if he does that again, expect another easy workhorse. Papalii can also find the try line as he did in his previous game.
Titans – Ryan James
James is one of the best scoring forwards in the comp having amassed 21 workhorses’ and six tries. He a very bankable forward who also has a high ceiling as he has the ability to score tries or get a double workhorse as he has done on three occasions this season.
Sea Eagles – Daly Cherry-Evans
DCE is one of the best scoring halves in the game with 15 try assists, 15 line break assists and six tries. When Manly played Titans last, DCE ran for 199 meters, scored a try and had a line break. Manly are a better team now and I can see DCE scoring a few points in this game.
Eels – Nathan Brown
Brown is the heart and soul of the Eels pack. He’s a very consistent scorer and since being back from injury he has only missed one workhorse which was his first game back.
