Captains Call: Round 20

Welcome to week 20 of Captains Call.

With only six rounds of NRL to go, many NRLCEO competitions are only a few weeks away from their finals. I am lucky enough to be involved in five competitions and should partake in four finals series (second last in Supporters Competition #9).

While they all have a few close tables where there’s two or three teams fighting for that last finals spot, I haven’t seen one quite as close as the private competition I am in, the Tookey Cup. We have an eight-team competition, no captains, top four for finals. We have three rounds to go and as it stands teams three to six are all on nine wins, with team seven on eight wins and a draw. The team second is two and a half wins in front but is still a mathematical chance of missing out. So, with three rounds to go, only two things are for certain, current first place can’t miss finals and current last place can’t make it.

If you are in a competition that’s close let us know.

Let’s review the five from last week.

David Klemmer – 4

Damien Cook – 9

Jake Trbojevic – 4

Kalyn Ponga – 3

Corey Oates – 4

Would have been a very successful week had Ponga not been sin binned for an accidental shoulder to the head. Still managed some points though.

Oates, Trbojevic and Klemmer all made four points with the latter two getting them from a workhorse, whereas Oates scored a run away try.

The best of the week, and not a really a shock was Cook. A double workhorse and line break assist helped him to nine points.

Let’s preview five more. Don’t forget to vote or leave a comment below.

Jake Granville

Since Baptiste got injured, Granville has been playing 80 minutes which is great news for those who have him. Since round 10 he is averaging five points, where as before that he was averaging just three.

Martin Taupau

Taupau is currently on his best workhorse run ever with 10 in a row. Up against a Knights pack lead by Klemmer, he will be looking to do more work and dominate up the middle. I can’t see his streak ending this weekend.

Victor Radley

Radley has been in good form lately, averaging six points a game over the last five weeks. With the Roosters forwards dropping like flies, Radley will be called upon for more work up the middle. At least another workhorse is on the cards this week.

Maika Sivo

Sivo is equal leading try scorer and only seems to be getting better each week. Against the Dragons who struggle on the edges, Sivo could really be the beneficiary.

Brian To’o

It may have taken a few weeks for To’o to find his feet but now that he has, he is a try scoring machine. Six tries in his last five games is a great return for those who took a punt on him. Against the Dogs, he will score at least one this week.
