Captains Call: Round 20

So here we are, the run home to the finals with no byes to interrupt us.

Special mention to Nathan Cleary, those who own him and captained him would have been very pleased with his score, I know I was.

Let’s review the five from last week and the biggest disappointment was Dylan Walker. It was his first zero score since Round 10, but what makes it worse was it was against a team who Manly should have dominated. Tom Trbojevic on the other hand had a good game. No tries but did produce two try assists, two line breaks and a line break assist.

Simon Mannering had a great game fantasy wise and did prove me wrong with his attacking stats by picking up a try along with his customary workhorse. Could have been even better though falling 12 meters short of a double.

Nick Cotric continues his try scoring form, picking up one against the Dragons along with a line break. This kid has a massive future ahead of him.

The pick of the lot was Elliot Whitehead who picked up a work horse, try and line break. He is pretty much on the same points as he was this time last season.

Time to preview five more and this week I’ve picked a few halves who I think will have good games this week.

Don’t forget to vote or leave a comment below.

Josh McGuire (safe bet)

Against the Bulldogs this week I think it will be a grinding affair with a lot of work going up the middle. This is where McGuire flourishes. When the Broncos played Bulldogs last, McGuire racked up 58 involvements in 59 minutes, after a week off expect the same this this weekend.

Cameron Smith (safe bet)

After and Origin win and a week off expect Smith to come out firing. This is a danger game for the Raiders and I can see Smith carrying on his form from the last game of Origin. Expect a workhorse and at least one try assist.

Mitch Pearce (risk and reward)

Pearce lost Origin and has had a week off the dwell on it. We all know his Origin form is poor but his club form has been good. I can see Pearce coming out all guns blazing against a Knights side who is only playing for pride. Pearce has a point to prove and after his last effort against the Knights in which he scored a try, try assist, line break and line break assist, he could very well replicate that score.

Ash Taylor (risk and reward)

Taylor has been in good form this year and his kicking game has been first class which shows as he has the most try assist via his boot. Against the Panthers expect Taylor to kick to Don all day as Mansour has been very poor under the high ball of late. He also showed last week he has a good running game and with no Merrin in the middle that could be exposed this week.

Michael Morgan (risk and reward)

With Origin over for another year Morgan can now concentrate on the Cowboys and being the senior half. If Warriors defend like they did last week Morgan is going to have a field day. His combination with Te Maire Martin is only young however these two could very well run amok this week as they did against the Raiders.

Who are you picking as captain for Round 20?
