Captains Call: Round 16

Welcome to Captains Call

Let me start by saying that if you have Angus Crichton then you are very lucky, if you captained him last week you’d be very happy. Interesting stat for Crichton is that since he has been in the starting 13 he is averaging about eight points a game.

Another great performer was Scott Bolton who played his second most minutes in a game this year which resulted in his first ever double workhorse with exactly 60 involvements.

A player who used to score doubles for fun was Paul Gallen who was one involvement off this week with 59. He did manage a line break assist so if your competition uses that stat then there is your attacking stat I was talking about, better than nothing.

Sosaia Feki was the most disappointing of the lot even though he managed a line break and try assist. Against the Tigers though you would have thought he would have picked up a few more points.

Bevan French did cross for that try and he almost had two if it wasn’t for a forward pass. The interesting thing is it looks like he may be playing the rest of the season on the wing, will that help or hinder his try scoring ability for the rest of the season, time will tell.

The best of the week went to the player who was probably under the most pressure, Cody Walker. A try, try assist, line break and line break assist is a great return for a player of his quality. Welcome back to the points Cody.

So I’ll take that as four and a half out of five (Feki was only worth half).

Have a look at who I’ve reviewed below and don’t forget to vote or leave a comment.

 .

Elijah Taylor (safe bet)

You know what you’re going to get every week with Taylor. Has only missed one workhorse this season but did manage a try in that game. He has a minimum of four points every game this season that he has played. One of, if not the most reliable player in the comp at the moment.

.

Tohu Harris (safe bet)

Since being back from injury he has been very consistent. He missed a workhorse in his first game back but did pick up his second ever double workhorse on the weekend. Expect his attacking stats to start to pick up soon once Origin is over.

 .

Gareth Widdop (risk and reward)

Widdop has been very quiet in his last two games. Expect him to come out firing against the second last placed Knights. If he and the Dragons don’t fire, then it’s a very big danger sign for them. I can see at least a try and try assist this week.

.

Shaun Johnson (risk and reward)

Johnson is currently in the Dream Team for a reason. With the goal kicking duties taken away so he can just concentrate on being a half back expect his attacking stats to be even higher. The danger for this game is the Bulldogs defence which kept the Dragons to two points last start. He did pick up a try last start against the Bulldogs.

.

Matt Moylan (risk and reward)

Moylan has been fantastic since he’s switched to five eight. He is averaging about eight points a game for the last five games. Against the Cowboys he may not have as big effect however on current form you can’t write him off.

Who are you picking as captain for Round 16?
