Captains Call: Round 15
Welcome to week 15 of Captains Call.
Its hard being a Raiders supporter sometimes. You brave the conditions to watch your team and those of you who don’t know, besides New Zealand, Canberra has some of the worst weather in Winter for watching NRL. The rain, the cold, the sleet, the snow, and to top it off to see your team lose again by the slimmest of margins just makes you want to pull your hair out. I did meet up with The Commish out there who is very dedicated, and as we both sat there five meters away from Ricky, we watched our team just slip away into the cold and miserable night. It’s not easy being green.
Let’s review the five from last week and the lowest score was from Thurston. I find it amazing there are commentators out there who still believe they can make finals. I’m sorry but they are gone. Thurston did manage a line break assist and try assist but it’s not the return you’d be looking for. Next was Alvaro and although his minutes were slightly down, he still made an easy workhorse. McInnes also made an easy workhorse and a line break. One of his more quieter games of late but nothing to complain about. It was a massive game by Gallen who, for at least one game, returned to his NRLCEO best. A try, try assist, line break and line break assist to go with his workhorse where he was only two involvements off a double is a massive return and his best since round 20, 2015. The best of the week though goes to the freak, Fusitua. Three tries, a try assist and two line breaks are just what you want from your Captain.
Let’s preview five more for the upcoming round and don’t forget to vote or leave a comment.
Nathan Brown – safe bet
He’s back. The surprise packet of last year is back into it and showed what he can do last game. His first double workhorse of the year with a huge 68 involvements and it might just be a sign of things to come. Against a Bunnies team who has been very good up the middle, expect Brown to get through a lot of work.
Ryan James – safe bet
James has been a quiet achiever this year, racking up workhorse’ but not getting the tries that made him a weapon in 2016. That changed last week with a double workhorse, double try outing. He could have another big outing against the Dogs as he tries to crack the NSW team.
Angus Crichton – safe bet
You could be fooled in to thinking Crichton isn’t going anywhere next year with his current form. He is averaging eight more involvements a game compared to last year which means his chances of missing a workhorse are very slim. After a week off after Origin, Crichton will be refreshed and eager to go. Against the Eels, he could also cross for his third try of the season.
Josh Addo-Carr – risk and reward
Addo-Carr has now gone three weeks without a try, expect all that to change against the Knights this weekend. In round six against the Knights, Addo-Carr crossed for a double and a repeat of that is very likely.
Nick Cotric – risk and reward
Cotric has scored six tries in his last five games. It seems he is only getting better and better and against the Tigers this week he will put in a huge showing to push his claims for an Origin spot.
