Captains Call: Round 7
Welcome to week seven of Captains Call.
And then there was one…
Dragons are the last team to remain undefeated this season. They are looking the goods and scoring plenty of points along the way. The down side to that is the lack of workhorses from the Dragons forwards. So far, the starting forward pack for the Dragons has combined for just 12 workhorse tries, an average of two per game. This should at some point increase as I can’t see the Dragons sustaining the high scoring all year, however for the moment, avoid naming any Dragons forwards in your starting side.
Are the Storm back to their attacking best?
There’s a case to say they are after they dismantled the Knights. The back three were all in the points and looking good but I’ve seen them look better.
That brings me to Cameron Smith who did lead the team around well but ended up with a zero. The one positive is he is back kicking and did slot six. Another two who got zeros were Mitchell Moses, who is looking lost, and Peter Wallace who was a surprise although it was a high scoring game in the end. Daniel Alvaro was having a great game, until he got sent to the bin. The frustrating thing was he missed a double workhorse buy one involvement which you have to think he would have gotten there if it not for the 10 in the bin. The best of the week was Jordan Rapana. A try and a line break was a good result in the wet and had it not been for Clint Gutherson’s leg he would have had a double.
Lets preview five more and hope they perform betting than my tipping. Don’t forget to vote or leave a comment below.
Tohu Harris – safe bet
Harris has taken his form with him over the ditch. He is playing some great footy which is relating to some good points. Four workhorse tries, six line break assists, three try assists, a try and a line break make for good reading for Harris owners. Against the Dragons, look for Harris to take his game to another level.
Ryan Matterson – safe bet
Didn’t think I’d have Ryan Matterson in this column this year but his form has warranted it. Has only missed one workhorse and was only one involvement off a double last week. Add to that his current try scoring form and you can see why he would be a good pick.
Jai Arrow – safe bet
Arrow has had a good start to his Titans career. Even though Titans a generally in high scoring games, he still has four workhorse tries for the year, including one in each of his last three games. Arrow could be a very consistent workhorse for years to come.
Corey Harawira-Naera – risk and reward
If, as expected, CHN plays at centre he could be in for another huge game. Coming up against a forward depleted Sharks, the Panthers will look to roll right through them then give it to this bloke on the edge like they did last week. Could another double be on the cards?
Daly Cherry-Evans – risk and reward
Manly were poor last week but will look to bounce back in a big way this week. When Manly played the Eels in round two, DCE was massive. I can see Manly bouncing back after their loss to the Tigers, but I can’t see the Eels getting out of their hole anytime soon. DCE will have a field day.
