Workhorse Watch Rd 15
You never disappoint me or let me down,
You were the one that brought me, a fantasy crown.
‘Cause I saw the end before we’d begun,
Yes I saw you were older and I knew this would come.
So I took my pick on that draft night,
Knowing that you would make things right.
You say it’s over but I won’t stop here,
Can I get you to play one more year?
You touched my heart you touched my soul.
With workhorse tries and all those goals.
And love is blind and that I knew when,
My heart was blinded by you.
I’ve watched Brisbane with beer in hand,
Checked your stats then checked again,
You’re a workhorse right to the end.
I’ve been addicted to you.
Goodbye my workhorse.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.
A few weeks back we looked at the state of play at the midway point of the NRLCEO season. One category that wasn’t highlighted was Workhorse Lite, those forwards that get it done, just; be it 40, 41 or 42 involvements to get a workhorse try.
There are three players that are stand outs when it comes to just getting across the line for a workhorse try. Each have finished in the Workhorse Lite category five times this season. Manu Ma’u’s five entries include scores of exactly 40 in each of the last two weeks. Not to be outdone, Luke Douglas has had scored of 41, 41, and 40 in the last three weeks. Also with five for the season is his Titans teammate Chris McQueen whose five has included back to back stints in rounds 2 & 3 as well as rounds 11 & 12.
Not too far behind them are hookers Cameron Smith and Jake Granville who each have four. It’s a little surprising to see Smith there but the difference is where 40-42 involvements is a high output for the other four, it’s a quiet game for the Queensland captain. Smith averages 47 involvements a game, has 12 workhorse tries for the season and has missed out on a workhorse only twice this season.
Workhorse of the Week:
Jake Trbojevic: Trbojevic has been outstanding this season and is yet to miss a workhorse try this year. This week he scored his first ever double workhorse try which was enough to take Workhorse of the Week honours. Brother Tom might get all the headlines but from a NRLCEO point of view Jake is the one you want. If your league doesn’t have meter eaters Jake is currently outscoring Tom 79-44. And if it does, Jake still has the advantage 83-70.
WORKHORSE PACK OF THE WEEK
- Jake Trbojevic: 49 tackles + 16 hitups = 65
- Mitch Rein: 45 tackles + 9 hitups = 54
- Ryan James: 44 tackles + 16 hitups = 60
- Kevin Proctor 43 tackles + 13 hitups = 56
- Bodene Thompson: 42 tackles + 13 hitups = 55
- Simon Mannering: 51 tackles + 11 hitups = 62
- Siosiua Teukeiahor: 45 tackles + 9 hitups = 54
- Jamie Buhrer: 37 tackles + 16 hitups = 53
CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR
Jordan McLean: 31 tackles + 8 hitups = 39
Nathan Brown: 29 tackles + 10 hitups = 39
Mitchell Aubusson: 31 tackles + 8 hitups = 39
STATS PER MINUTE
Just when you were ready to give up on Tepai Moeroa he lands his first workhorse try in two months. Had it been any other week a lot of NRLCEOs might have left him out of their side. Moeroa played the full 80 minutes for the first time this season and managed to get 42 involvements against the Rabbitohs (0.53 SPM).
Did you pick up Kenny Bromwich last weekend? If you did you would have benefited from him grabbing his first workhorse try of the season. Bromwich was named at hooker but started in the back row and had 43 involvements in 61 minutes (0.70 SPM). Bromwich’s average Stat Per Minute score is 0.75 so although his workrate was down slightly his minutes (40 on average) were way up. The same can not be said for Felise Kaufusi who was relegated to the bench and played just 18 minutes against the Dragons.
Euan Aitken scored his third workhorse try of the season in the Dragons game against Melbourne on Saturday night. Aitken had 26 tackles and 17 runs over the 80 minutes (0.54 SPM) and also scored a metre eater (his 9th for the season). Other players currently with 3 workhorse tries for the season include Greg Bird, Luke Lewis and Mitch Aubusson.
The workhorse stocks of Siosiua Teukeiaho continue to rise with the the Roosters’ forward scoring his highest involvements in a game to date. Teukeiaho had 54 involvements in 80 minutes (0.68 SPM) and with 11 weeks to go in the NRL regular season, only needs one more workhorse to match the six he scored last year.
